Tennie Pierce and the Case with the LAFD

Genie Harrison of Litt Estuar Harrison & Kitson LLP is featured in an exciting, exclusive, in-depth and inside interview, discussing

Headline Civil Rights News and the Los Angeles Fire Department. Genie and Tennie Pierce discuss racial harassment and intentional infliction of emotional distress at the Los Angeles Fire Department. Tennie, an African-American firefighter, claimed he suffered racial harassment, intentional infliction of emotional distress and retaliation after being served spaghetti laced with dog food by his co-workers at Fire Station 5. Pierce brought suit after suffering retaliation for reporting the incident, which included verbal slurs, insults and derogatory remarks including barking like a dog and asking how the dog food tasted. The City of Los Angeles ultimately settled the case, agreeing to pay Tennie Pierce $1,430,000 (plus $60,000 back pay).
